About the Event
Welcome to the first official installment of Ricky G PRESENTS, a curated concert experience that highlights the LEGENDS of FUNK, with some of San Diego’s most accomplished musicians. FUNKADELIC NIGHT will showcase the music of PARLIAMENT FUNKADELIC, featuring Lige Curry, current bass player and vocalist with P*FUNK! Wear your funkiest threads and be ready to dance; “Free Your Mind and Your Ass Will Follow!”
Lige Curry joined Parliament Funkadelic in 1978, first contributing background vocals and bass shortly thereafter, just in time for the Gloryhallastoopid tour. Lige’s opportunity to ride the mothership came after George Clinton saw him and his cousin Micheal Hampton (aka Kid Funkadelic) play the Funkadelic classic, “Maggot Brain,” at an afterparty in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Clinton was impressed and hired Michael to play guitar a few months later, then Lige shortly followed suit. Lige has had a 40+ year career with P*Funk and still tours with them to this day!
Ricky Giordano (Ricky G) came up playing guitar with San Diego based funk groups (Surefire Soul Ensemble, B*Side Players) before ultimately landing with legendary saxophonist and hometown hero Karl Denson. Fresh off a JazzFest run in New Orleans with Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Ricky returned to San Diego with the inspiration to start Ricky G PRESENTS: A Curated Concert Experience.
Russell Ramo is one of the hardest working guitarists in San Diego. A PB native, Ru got their start with BoomSnap, before joining San Diego Music Award winning group The Routine and touring all over the southwest. Ru stays busy fronting a number of groups and playing solo gigs around town.
Brian Teel has been a pillar in the San Diego music scene for decades. Specializing in reggae and funk, Funky BT is a founding member of The Devastators and The Earful, and has toured with Big Mountain, One Drop and many others.
Jeremy Dietz played drums in San Diego bands (Surefire Soul Ensemble , Lige Delic) before relocating to Denver and joining the Lettuce crew. He is currently on tour with Lettuce drum tech-ing for Adam Deitch, and siting in with various projects featuring Eric “Benny” Bloom and others.
